In the craziness of being sick, work, etc., I don't know that I've ever told everyone that an article that I wrote two years ago is going to be published for sure later this year in the Journal of Aesthetic Education. I heard about a year ago from the editor of the journal that they really liked it and wanted to publish it, but then I never heard anything more, so I assumed that it would be a long way off yet (or perhaps not at all).

So much to my surprise, about two weeks ago I received a letter from the productions editor at JAE that said this:

Dear Prof. Green,

Attached for your review is a copyedited version of your Journal of Aesthetic Education contribution, which will be appearing in the Winter 2010 (44.4) issue.

Naturally, I was pretty excited and called Josh, but I think I was sick that morning and never really told anybody else.

Tonight I finally got around to reviewing the changes, so I thought I would just take this moment to celebrate with all of you. Also, to marvel at how unabashedly I can toss out words like diegetic, contrapuntal, and specificity when writing in my academic voice (I laughed quite a bit while reading my high-falutin' English tonight).

Blog Resurrection

Well, I've thought about resurrecting this blog for a while now, and I have finally concluded that I will. Of course, that leaves the somewhat obvious gap of 2 years. So what has happened in the past two years worth mentioning?

Here are the highlights:

We went to Italy. Yeah, that was as amazing as it looked. I guess you can peruse facebook if you want to see the rest (PS. Rome was the best).

Jeanette went on a mission April 2008 to Guatemala. I'm excited because we get to talk to her next week for Mother's Day.

Last summer we hiked through Zion's National Park with Josh's Grandpa and our friends Cari & Bob (might I add, in 100 degree weather).

Naturally there have been a few birthdays and holidays, and the crazy food that goes with them (rainbow cake...big surprise when you cut in).

And Josh and I both graduated last August. So Josh has a bachelors in Communication/PR, and I have a masters in English Rhetoric & Composition.

Yeah, so that's the past two years in a nutshell.

Josh's Birthday 2008

I planned this little event to be a surprise birthday party for Josh. And he was definitely surprised when his friends just started to come over to hang out with him. And more surprised when other friends showed up at the very place that we were going to dinner.
This is before the grill got started (it got pretty steamy after that).
We were watching the office episode where they go to the Japanese grill, and Josh happened to mention that they were his favorite restaurant to go to. So, I decided that was where we should go. Some of our friends obviously have amazing chopsticking abilities.

After the dinner, we all went back to our apartment to celebrate with cake. Josh had specifically requested yellow cake with chocolate frosting, so he knew I was making a cake, but I hid it in the fridge and taped it shut so he wouldn't get tempted to look inside.
We had 26 trick candles, so there were one or two which were stubborn enough not to blow out.

I was pretty proud of the cake since I had never done a layered cake like this before.
We broke out the bubbly for the night.
After we ate cake, we told funny stories and played cards. These are the remains of our party!

Roman Murder Mystery

We had a murder mystery night at our apartment for some friends. It was Roman-themed, so everyone had to wear a toga and we ate as the Romans--reclining, or at least on the floor. Everyone had fake Roman names and as we ate dinner, the clues shed suspicion on everyone. No one suspected that it was Cari that was the murderer!

Our relief society has parent date nights where children-less couples watch the kiddos for a couple hours while the parents have a date. I volunteered Josh and me to help. Josh got involved in a sword fight with a chase during.

Pretty funny stuff.

The Beginning

I've been meaning to start one of these and so Christi's invitation sparked my interest. Jeanette is over this afternoon helping me do housework so that I can start getting things back to normal around our house.
